A gift shopper has a deadline, not just a product preference. Give that shopper a phone number to ask about your shipping policy before checkout. Ava answers calls around the clock using your store information, so the conversation can happen while the purchase still matters.

A delivery question can decide the purchase

Consider this hypothetical situation: a shopper finds the right gift on Tuesday evening and needs it by Saturday. Your product page lists a shipping service, but the buyer cannot tell whether the time includes packing. They have a practical question that a discount does not answer.

A clear response separates the date an order leaves your business from its estimated arrival. If the available information does not support the deadline, explain that limit. The objective is an informed purchase, with an expectation your team can honor.

Give Ava the same delivery facts your checkout uses

Shopify supports delivery-date options that depend on store eligibility and configuration. Its delivery-date guidance explains the role of fulfillment time and the distinction between manual and automated estimates. Your phone guidance should stay aligned with the method you actually use.

Build a short delivery reference for your team and Ava. Include processing time, business-day rules, warehouse cutoffs, destinations served and exceptions for made-to-order products. Write down which source wins if an old FAQ conflicts with a current shipping policy.

Shopify also explains that transit time excludes order processing. A two-day shipping service is not automatically a promise that a newly placed order arrives two days from now. Give Ava approved language for that distinction instead of leaving it to guess.

Make the call useful before adding a recovery offer

Ava provides a dedicated store number, product and policy answers, call recordings and transcripts. You can supply knowledge through documents, pasted text and store URLs. Start with a specific delivery policy rather than a broad instruction to reassure every caller.

Use a short test call: describe the item, delivery destination and required date. Check that the response identifies missing information, uses the correct policy and avoids turning an estimate into a guarantee. Route requests requiring an exception to your team.

Place the phone number near the information that prompts the question, such as the shipping FAQ or contact area. Keep the written policy available too. A shopper should be able to choose a useful channel without searching for basic facts.

Bring an eligible abandoned checkout back to the real question

On the Recover plan, Ava follows up by phone on eligible abandoned checkouts and can text the checkout link during the conversation. Configure your workflow around appropriate consent, contact preferences and permitted calling times. A phone field alone is not an instruction to call every shopper.

In the hypothetical gift scenario, the first useful step is finding out whether delivery uncertainty stopped the purchase. If your policy answers that concern, the shopper has a route back to checkout. Where an approved discount applies, explain its terms accurately. A reduced price does not change a carrier estimate.

If a physical gift cannot meet the deadline, your team can point the buyer toward an available alternative. A digital gift card is one option only if your store offers it and its delivery setup fits the request. Do not promise a precise send time without checking that workflow.

Measure answered questions separately from recovered sales

Review a small sample of calls for accuracy before expanding the workflow. Record the recurring question, whether the agent answered it from an approved source, and whether a person needed to follow up. Use those findings to improve the shipping page.

For commercial reporting, keep call activity, checkout-link clicks and completed orders as separate events. A sent link is not a sale. Compare actual completed purchases and the cost of the workflow, while noting changes in promotions, traffic and delivery availability.

Start with the plan that fits the job

Support starts at $29 per month with 100 included call minutes and $0.10 per additional minute. Recover is $99 per month with 400 included minutes and $0.08 per additional minute. Both offer a seven-day free trial. Ava takes no commission on recovered revenue; subscription and usage charges still apply. See the available plans.

Frequently asked questions

Can Ava guarantee that a gift will arrive on time?

Ava can explain the delivery information you provide. A phone conversation does not create a new carrier guarantee or override your fulfillment limits. Keep any promises tied to the service and policy that support them.

Does every delivery question need an outbound call?

No. Start with inbound access for shoppers who choose to call. Use outbound follow-up only for eligible checkouts within your configured contact rules.

Where should a gift store begin?

Choose one delivery policy, train Ava on the current details and test a deadline question before adding the number to the store. For broader setup ideas, read our guide to five practical uses for Ava.
